Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Let’s get that tongue moving! Orofacial myology is the neuro-retraining of the body to use the correct muscles of the body, specifically the face and mouth, for speech, eating, drinking and breathing instead of compensations. Due to the wide range of causes and symptoms a multi-disciplinary approach collaborating with the other specialists provides a holistic approach to assessment, therapy and successful change. We begin by scheduling an evaluation appointment to get your history and evaluate your function of the muscles for speech, eating and breathing. We would set a therapy plan for before, during and after any dental, surgical, diagnostic needs you may have. A home plan of exercises are usually included. When appropriate we may use craniosacral therapy to assist with relieving tension and restoring balance to the body. Frequency and length of therapy depends upon your needs and consistency with exercises.
